No Holiday From Learning

The holidays traditionally bring gatherings of family and friends, favorite foods and festivities. It's also a time to celebrate in our own special way as we look forward to the New Year.

The Los Angeles Unified School District has so much to celebrate: a double-digit surge in test scores --the most progress shown by any district. Our students achieved gains at every level. Nearly 70 of our traditional elementary schools posted gains of 40 points or greater. The top scorer, at that level, is 122nd Street Elementary School with 70 points. A half dozen of our traditional middle schools achieved more than 40 points and Robert Frost Middle School was the top performer with 49 points. At the senior high school level, six comprehensive high schools also soared more than 40 points with Jefferson High School taking the lead with a 59-point gain.

There is no holiday from learning in the LAUSD. All gains--big or small--at our schools spell progress in students' academic achievement, a welcomed gift any time of the year. Thank you LAUSD family and to all Happy New Year!
